Fma Agreement

The initial agreement began on September 14, 1989 as a single forest management agreement Other forest companies active in forest management: Accord: Tolko Industries Ltd., Vanderwell Contractors (1971) Ltd. and West Fraser Mills Ltd. Sustainability was first discussed in 1972 at the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment (UNCHE) in Stockholm. The 1992 United Nations Earth Summit (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro and the third United Nations Climate Change Conference in Kyoto in 1997 (COP 3) were also major milestones. Another important date is the 2015 Paris Agreement. It is a binding agreement between the 197 parties to the convention, involving not only individual countries, but also the European Union (EU). In this agreement, the parties commit to the common goal of keeping global average temperature rise well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and reducing emissions in general. Financial flows will also be redirected to meet climate targets. Many countries, the European Union (EU) and many international organizations and bodies (such as the International Organization of Securities Commissions [IOSCO] and the UN) have accepted the Sustainable Development Goals and are committed, including the principles of the United Nations Organization for Good Banking Governance (PRB), Sustainable Insurance (PSI), Responsible Investment (PRI) and the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SSE). Contract holders have considerable responsibility and responsibility for forest management planning, in line with the Alberta government`s commitment to sustainable resource development.

In addition, holders of forest management agreements should be the occasion for public consultation when developing a forest management plan for the territory. Alberta currently has 20 forest management agreements, including three joint agreements. The scope of a forest management agreement varies and the owners of the agreement must adhere to rigorous forest management practices to achieve performance consistent with sustainable forest management principles and practices.
